The Technical Excellence Center (CET) at Progreso promotes the “Kiln Technical Knowledge Roundtables,” where plant operation experts come together.
A total of 85 collaborators from the San Miguel, San Gabriel, CENOSA (Honduras), and Colorado (Costa Rica) plants—60 in person and 25 virtually—gathered to engage in this new chapter and enhance their professional knowledge.
The Optimization and Knowledge Management R&D areas of the Technical Excellence Center are committed to fostering synergy and building collaboration among Progreso’s operations, as well as capturing, developing, and facilitating the transfer of critical knowledge. For this reason, events such as the technical roundtables are organized.
Our CEO, José Raúl González, participated in the roundtable, sharing the challenges that have been identified globally for the cement industry.
From the San Miguel plant, they shared their experiences with ring management in kilns and axial balance as critical processes in their operation. Costa Rica participated for the first time as a new member of the Progreso family and presented its operation and best practices in handling alternative fuels, while CENOSA shared cases of cyclone blockages and their effective management of the grate cooler. Finally, the San Gabriel plant shared best practices on burner design for petcoke.

For the CET, ensuring operational excellence involves innovation, knowledge management, and process optimization, which are among its primary functions, in addition to creating the necessary spaces and platforms for knowledge exchange.
The participation of all plants and critical kiln operations, along with the exchange of ideas and synergies generated among the participants, demonstrates our experts’ commitment to making a lasting impact and our technicians’ overall dedication to ensuring the sustainability of operations.
Why a kiln technical roundtable?
Ensuring the operational efficiency of kilns guarantees the quality and optimal performance of our products, as well as the availability of clinker to meet cement demand. This makes it one of Progreso’s critical operations, directly impacting our customers.
More knowledge, more analysis communities.
As a result of the latest technical roundtables on ball mills and kilns, the demand for creating new analysis communities has become evident. These would focus on raw materials, vertical mills, AFRs, concrete, aggregates, and other areas that will, in the future, contribute to achieving better global operational indicators by applying the shared experiences.
